Did you ever feel like you can’t draw? Well our six grader, Astrid, felt like she could help.

She was a great artist so good that she taught a senior Amaya Binns how to draw. Astrid wanted to start off easy since Amaya was a beginner in the drawing field so they agreed upon to draw a cartoon puppy. Astrid was the instructor and Amaya was the student. When beginning Astrid gave Amaya step by step instructions on how to start drawing the head of the puppy. Amaya had no faith she had any ability to draw commenting with a long hard sigh, “I’m so stressed I don’t think I’ll be able to draw well,” but our fiery, outgoing six grader Astrid answered back with a huge smile, “Don’t worry the steps are easy to follow, I’ll lead the way.”

Astrid had pre-drawn the puppy and it was laid out in front of the both of them and Astrid went straight away into giving directions on drawing the puppy using simple terms that anyone could use if they also were a beginner saying, “We’re going to start with drawing a basic circle for the head, then we’re going to draw a V shape under his head where the nose will go, then you’re going to want to draw triangle shapes at the edge of the circle for his ears.” Amaya messed up a few times but in the end following the finishing of the drawing Amaya showed Astrid her drawing with a huge grin, “I tried really hard on this drawing. I’m a bit nervous to show you but I think overall I did a great job!” and Astrid saying, “I knew you could it just takes practice and time.”

Everyone in their lives at the end of the day should have an outlet to make them feel relaxed. Drawing can even benefit you with your education. Using art, not just in doodles, but also graphs and charts is proven to help memorize and better understand the information and its context. So we encourage drawing not just for a hobby but for educational purposes! Try drawing!
