Band Music Program

Even the most vocal of Marshall’s critics seem to agree that some of the art programs here are pretty great. Notable examples include the Beauty and the Beast musical, the 6th grade choir at the National School Walkout, and anything that the jazz band does ever. Like seriously, out of the three main music classes offered at Marshall, band is easily the one that’s often seen at school events and rivals the impressiveness of the Drama Club.

The aforementioned three main classes are orchestra, band, and choir. Each has three levels, those being beginning, intermediate, and advanced. Because we only have info about band, that’s all we’re going to talk about in this article.

Said band is regarded as the best music program in PUSD, and I’m not just saying that to make anyone feel better. At the PUSD Jazz Competition on March 2nd, 2018 our jazz band won Best Jazz Band, Best Song, and Best Dressed Band awards. The man who has been directing this group is Mr. Anthony Carafone.

“This is only Mr. Carafone’s second year at Marshall and he’s such a sweet teacher who also focuses on helping us to keep our grades up,” said a band student named Gabriel G.

As most quotes on this site are overly-positive and sometimes not entirely true, it’s unknown if Gabriel actually means this at all but we’re going to give them the benefit of the doubt. At the very least it seems that Mr. Carafone’s work is paying off, proven by the awards band has won. If you want to listen to some of their music yourself, there are videos on the Marshall Facebook page such as this one.
